2016-17 Budget Information

On Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at its regularly scheduled meeting, the South Western School District will be tentatively adopting its 2016-17 budget.  That budget provides for an expenditure level of $64,348,448 representing a 3.48% increase over the 2015-16 budget of $62,213,160.

In order to help fund this budget, the district is looking to increase real estate taxes 0.59 mills or 3.22% from 18.32 mills to 18.91 mills.  This will generate an additional $1,143,140 and equates to an increase of $87.65 for the average homeowner in the district ($148,558 assessment).  Of that 0.59 mill proposed tax increase, 0.53 mills is the state approved adjusted index for the district of 2.9%, while the 0.06 mills is the PDE approved exception for excess required special education expenses.

Final adoption of the budget is scheduled for the June 8, 2016 Board meeting.  Information regarding the budget may be found on the District’s website at http://apps.swsd.k12.pa.us/wordpress/budget/2016-2017/.

Questions regarding the 2016-17 budget may be directed to Jeff Mummert, Business Administrator at 632-2500 x20100.
